BIG OL' BOY

Well, it's been a little while since I've "blogged" about my #1 little guy. Rest assured, there have been plenty of memorable moments since my last post. HALLOWEEN, for example, was probably one of the best "memory makers" ever. If you're out of the loop and don't know, Newt was a TIGER for HALLOWEEN. Probably the most adorable TIGER ever, I might add. There was a moment (work with me here) as he was running down the street (as a tiger) in front of me, with all the other kids, that I was overwhelmed with this "THAT'S MY CHILD!" feeling. It was a bitter-sweet. It was a proud father, watching his baby boy growing up right before his eyes..........

Newt is going to pre-school now......and let me tell you, he is learning, learning, learning. One of the funniest things I've seen is this new term for sitting "INDIAN STYLE". They call it "CRISS-CROSS APPLESAUCE". At any given time, I can tell Newt: "CRISS-CROSS APPLESAUCE", and he will immediately go to "INDIAN STYLE". If you have pre-school age children, try it. Chances are, they are using this politically correct term at your child's place of learning.

I wish I could make all these TYPED words make you understand how much I really love this little boy. I guess for now, you're going to just have to take my word for it.

Newt has been quick to correct me that he is not a LITTLE BOY....nor is he a BIG BOY....but in fact, he is a BIG OL' BOY. Priceless. Don't believe me? Luckily, I have provided the video to prove it.

No Plans Needed

"If the relationship of father to son could really be reduced to biology, the whole earth would blaze with the glory of fathers and sons."  ~James Baldwin

Sometimes I have trouble sleeping the nights before I pick up Newt. Not the bad kind of not sleeping, but the kind of not sleeping I used to get on Christmas Eve.

When I went to pick up the The Newtapotamus this weekend, I could HEAR him before I could SEE him. As I got got to the top of the steps at his Nana's house, I could hear those little feet and the THUMP THUMP THUMP of his LIGHT-UP THOMAS shoes headed for the door.

"THAT'S MY DADDY!" he hollered

Talk about a good feeling on a beautiful Saturday morning! The phrase, which he seems to use more and more, (TO HIS DADDY'S LIKING) is usually phonetically pronounced THAT'S MY DADDY!

This particular Saturday, our football team is away, so the majority of our day is spent looking at BUGS, HOLLER'N, THOMAS, random guy stuff, NAPS, and now Wonder Pets has been added to our REPERTOIRE.

Did I mention THOMAS?

I was just telling someone about an epiphany I had.......
When NEWT was an infant, I used to strategically plan our day. I knew what time we would eat, I knew what time we would nap, I knew what park we would visit, and the route we would take to get there. THEN IT HIT ME.

It did not matter what we did, where we went, our when we did it. What DID matter, was that we were together. PERIOD
If I needed to go to the post office, NEWT went.....Oil change, NEWT went.....Grocery store...NEWT went.

THAT'S MY LITTLE BOY

Living Off Pictures

If I could find the guy who originated the "every-other weekend" plan, I would kick him in the nuts.

It is what it is...........

I last saw JUNIOR two days ago. It wasn't my "weekend", but his Bamaw and PawDad called me Sunday evening to ask me to join them at a local Chinese restaurant, where Newt happens to like their cat chicken. He would not let ANYBODY have ANY of his noodle chips....not even his DADDY. It doesn't seem like much, and it only lasted 30 minutes, but it was like winning a prize.

I NEVER pass up a chance to see my son.

My Iphone (c)  has 667 photos on the "camera roll" and 731 photos in the "photo library". The vast majority of those pictures are of none other than the Newtapotamus. Extreme? Maybe. If you think that's a little much, chances are, you see your child everyday.

NEVER TAKE THAT FOR GRANTED

Newt has gotten old enough now that I am able to occasionally chit-chat with him on the telephone. Doesn't matter what either one of us says, it's all about hearing the other one....
I love just listening to him C-O-U-N-T...(skips 5 sometimes) ......
or HOLLER'N the ABC's.......
or maybe even a...
"YO GABBA GABBA IS AWWEEESSOMEE!"

The rest of the time he's not here.........

I'm living off pictures................

ROOKIE

Are you kidding me? A blog? Well I've been learning over the recent years that it's not always about me. Someone suggested that it might be a good idea to write, or type, some of these random thoughts and experiences of being NEWT'S DAD.

I've been told that the internet is forever....Well, I guess that's yet to be determined.....but Newt, if you are reading this, it at least lasted until you became internet savvy.

Yep, that's him. The ol' bundle of joy.....my shadow.....the apple of my eye.......
NICHOLAS NEWTON NORRIS
Became a regular here on Earth on February 5th, 2008.....5 lbs. 15 oz.
(some people mount fish that big).

It's funny how one of the things I remember most was how he came out peeing TEE-TEE'n. I guess if I was stuck in belly for that long I'd have to go too.......

Newt, Newty-Newt, The Mayor of Newtville, Newtavious, Newtron, Newtastic, Newt The Magnificent
People ask all the time.....Newt?.....Like the lizard
Well, yes...sorta.
My father's middle name is NEWTON, as well as my grandfather's. It was a no-brain'er. Once the NEWTON was in place, NEWT was an automatic.

A good friend of mine told me in the months leading up to his birth, that I was going to find out that I had no idea I was capable of loving anything as much. SPOT ON.

LOOK WHAT I'VE GOT!

I've heard and believe that children are a gift from God........

Even now, as Newt approaches 3 yrs old, my heart still beats pitter-patters when I hold him. See that picture to the left? Text book pitter-pattering going on there.

Not long ago, I posted on FACEBOOK that "my son makes me feel the way everything else I've ever tried, never could." There has never been a more accurate statement that I can come up with to describe what this little 32 lb. GIFT from God has done for me. My only desire is to live up to the expectations of what good fathers are suppose to be.

I DIG this daddy GIG

It's probably obvious to most that I did not have him by myself. I would be amiss if I did not mention APPLAUD his MOTHER, CRYSTAL.........who has been, and continues to be a good FANTASTIC mommy.

If there's anyone out there pondering the thought of being a parent, I HIGHLY recommend it.
Simply put, my EVERYTHING begins and ends with him.
